Neighborhoods in Collaboration

Selected Neighborhood Projects

  • Elaka DRC

Hood Intl is honored to have been involved in the inception of ELAKA DRC, an initiative dedicated to reducing maternal mortality rates in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our collaboration entailed conducting a thorough needs assessment, identifying and harnessing the invaluable community resources, including a holistic maternal clinic and skilled health educators. Together, we transformed these assets into a voucher program, significantly enhancing access to essential healthcare services and education for women. Additionally, Hood Intl played a crucial role in securing grants and facilitating the adoption of a health app tailored to the needs of all mothers.

  • HALT19

Dedicated to fostering global solidarity, Halt 19 was conceived to address the urgent WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) needs in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Hood Intl played a pivotal role in mobilizing community members, forming a cohesive network of stakeholders committed to this cause. Together, we spearheaded a dynamic social media campaign, crafted a pilot research protocol, and designed effective masks. Importantly, all items and elements of the program were locally sourced and culturally integrated, ensuring relevance and sustainability within the community. Furthermore, our team developed comprehensive training materials to educate individuals on proper mask usage and handwashing techniques, thereby mitigating the transmission of COVID-19.

  • WATER

Hood Intl played a crucial role in facilitating the development of an ethics training curriculum as part of the WATER project, generously funded by OSIWA and managed by WAHO and IRESSEF. This innovative curriculum was meticulously crafted to offer ethical guidance, particularly crucial during epidemics when ethical considerations can easily be overlooked. Drawing insights from consultations with ministers of health across West Africa, the curriculum stands as a testament to collaborative efforts aimed at promoting ethical conduct in the face of public health crises.
