How we think.

Welcome to Neighborhood International (a.k.a. “HOOD INTL” or “N.I.”), where our philosophy is rooted in fostering equitable partnerships and empowering communities worldwide.

NI emerged from a keen observation of the challenges faced by local foreign NGOs, which often lack access to the same funding opportunities as larger or Western-based organizations. Through conversations and interviews with local NGOs, it became evident that there was a pressing need for support to sustain their impactful work.

Our mission is clear: to champion these local initiatives, whether through formal NGO structures or community-led efforts. We believe in empowering communities to drive their own development, acknowledging that sustainable change is best achieved when it comes from within.

At the heart of NI's philosophy is the concept of the world as a neighborhood. We strive to cultivate partnerships built on mutual respect, collaboration, and a shared vision. Just as neighbors support one another in times of need, we believe in fostering relationships where learning, exchange, and growth are central themes.

In our global community, everyone has something valuable to contribute, whether it's knowledge, culture, stories, or financial resources. By embracing this ethos of reciprocity, we can collectively build a more interconnected and prosperous world.

Join us in reimagining international development through the lens of neighborhood relationships.

Together, we can make the difference.

Self determination is the hope we have for all our neighbors. We see this as a process, best supported through community, that ultimately empowers people to fully engage their agency.

To this end, we practice neighbor-to-neighbor engagement with the following aspirations:

  • Strength-based Support: Creating solutions based on individual's strengths, assets, and abilities

  • Relational Trust-building: We cultivate personal relationships through human-centered care, storytelling, and shared reflection.

  • Open Exchange: Maintaining free flow of information, thoughts, feelings, and ideas between individuals or within a group to support mutual growth

  • Reflexivity: Mindfulness, reflection, and self-awareness are integral components for the personal growth that leads to transformative community action.

  • Autonomy & Agency: We practice self-determination throughout each level of engagement, with every participant maintaining their right to speak their truth and electively engage.

Join our international neighborhood.
